Hello I am Colony of ColonyChic,

I have been recycling, Upcycling and repurposing all sorts of items long before it became fashionable! Always being more than pleased with my charity shop finds, whether it be a piece of jewellery, a smart leather handbag or maybe even a whole outfit. Never one to turn down a cast off of any kind, my mother showed me that any piece of furniture or ornament can be painted to fit perfectly into any decor! Back in California, where I originate from, she was “shabby chicing “ back as far as the 1960’s and I learnt at her knee!

Roll on many years and the whole upcycling trend is hugely popular now, and I love it. The pleasure of refinishing something that was almost going to landfill is such a thrill. I love to take a previously loved item , give it a new look and hopefully find it a new home where it will be reloved all over again!

Most of my bits of furniture are vintage, over 20 years old, and they have all had a previous life. They tend to carry the scrapes and scars of being used, but I think these only add to their charm! They all are individual one offs but so much nicer than the usual mass produced furniture of today.

My hubby and I sand, repair, and then I handpaint each item, expect a few imperfections! We try to achieve sympathetic results, restoring the actual wood finishes where we can! Adding what I call “ColonyChic “!
